The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Sokoto Command has deployed no fewer than one thousand two hundred personnel across twenty-three local government areas of the state.
The State Commandant of the Corps, Mr Bello Argungu, stated this while briefing Journalists in his office ahead March 28 Gubernatorial and State Assembly election in Sokoto state.
According to Argungu, the deployment was part of the command commitments to provide peaceful environment before, during and after the polls.
He added that personnel of the command especially the senior officers were reoriented on election activities towards credible exercise.
He further said the command had a series of strategic security meetings through Inter-Agency Consultative Security Committee on Election.
” The Committee was comprised of all heads of security in the state with INEC resident electoral Commissioner as Chairman and Commissioner of Police as Co-Chairman.
” Even yesterday we met and review security hitches during the last presidential and National Assembly election.
” Therefore, those hitches was identified and we would ensure that none occurred in the coming Saturday’s election.”
He assured residents that with the level of Independent National Electoral Commission preparedness, the security would continue to remain committed to ensuring free, fair and credible elections without favour or intervention of any political party in the state.
Argungu said the Corps had made some arrests during the last election and as soon as the investigation is over the suspects would be handed over to INEC for further prosecution according to Electoral Act.
The Commandant however urged electorates to continue to cooperate with security agencies and be law-abiding during the forthcoming elections in the state.
