CLUB HOUSE INAUGURATION

The highpoint of events on day 4 of the National Polo Tournament was the inauguration of a newly constructed Polo Resort Club House to help strengthen the objectives of the Polo sport in Nigeria.

Chairman of the Nigerian Army Polo Resort; Nasiru Danu, said the new edifice is a testament to the strong partnership which the Private sector is bringing to help rebuild the Nigerian Army Polo Resort.

“And the whole idea is to see how we can partner with the private sector to rebuild the Nigerian Army Polo,” Danu said. “And we are doing that because as we speak today, the Nigerian Army is the number one polo club in Nigeria .”

“With over 350 Argentine horses and of course you can see the tournament and the level of competition, I can assure you that by Sunday, you will be happy to see the final. So, congrats to the Nigerian Army and congrats to the Guards Polo club”.

Chairman of the Nigeria Army Polo Association (NAPA), Brigadier General Adamu Laka, while thanking Danu for leading the private sector initiative towards actualising the overall mandate of the sport stakeholders, enumerated other programmes being introduced in order to make the resort a world class standard.

“You see, this is the Nigerian Army Polo Resort. It has many facilities but the main facility here is the polo because we started with the polo and the Chief of Army Staff has directed that we bring this to world standard,” General Laka said.

“So, based on his directive we introduced the archery club, we have the scorpion archery club where you and your children could go and learn how to shoot bow and arrow. Then we have a five aside football field and basketball court, and a table tennis facility.”

“Now we are building a children’s equestrian riding school whereby we bring children between the ages of 3 and 8 for professional trainers to teach them on how to ride horse, because, when you can ride a horse then you move to the polo field,” he added.

The grand finale of the tournament is scheduled for Sunday, December 17th, with the President’s Cup as major highpoint to round off the carnival tournament.
