On December 7, Port Harcourt, Nigeria, will host the ‘Simplified Rumble in Rivers for Champions’ boxing event, headlined by an exciting title fight between undefeated Nigerian featherweight Taiwo ‘Esepo’ Agbaje and Tanzania’s Loren Japhet for the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) world featherweight title. The bout, held at the Diete Spiff Civic Centre, pits Agbaje’s 16-0 record with 11 knockouts against Japhet’s experience (18-7-3 with 4 KOs) in a 12-round showdown.

Organized by Zeus Sports and Entertainment, the event promises 10 fights in total, with notable matchups including the return of former heavyweight contender Ike ‘The President’ Ibeabuchi, who will face Egypt’s Sammy Abdalla in his first fight after years away from the ring. Also on the lineup is former WBC Super Featherweight Silver Champion Elizabeth Oshoba, who will go up against Egypt’s Hargar Mohammed, and ex-WBO International light middleweight champion King Davidson, facing Egyptian Ayman Mohammed. Rounding out the main card is Nigerian Jude ‘Great Jude’ Iloh, set to clash with Angola’s Lando Henriques.

The event has garnered significant support locally, with King Ateke Tom, Amanyanagbo of Okochiri, serving as its patron and expressing his admiration for boxing. The night is set to attract sports and entertainment stars such as Finidi George, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Flavour, and Burna Boy, making it a high-profile occasion for fans of both boxing and celebrity culture.

Former Nigerian national goalkeeper Peterside Idah commented on the positive impact events like this bring to Rivers State, noting that major sports gatherings can help foster peace and promote a new narrative for the region.
