The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has refuted claims from some quarters that its customers in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states in North West Nigeria receive only two hours of electricity supply daily.
In a statement by head of Corporate Communications officer Sani Bala, described the claims as “misleading and exaggerated.”
According him, the company’s daily tracking records show that it experienced between 3.9 GWh to 4.7 GWh of electricity supply over the past five days.
“This contradicts the claim that customers receive only two hours of supply daily, which would translate to 0.4 GWh to 0.56 GWh.”
Bala attributed the reduction in supply to critical upgrades being carried out on the network to increase energy supply to customers in bands B, C, and D.
He explained that, despite the reduction in supply, the company maintained full supply to critical feeders serving utilities, social service providers, and businesses.
“Equally, as the network upgrade and maintenance exercise is being completed, most customers have begun to witness significant improvement in power supply.”
The KEDCO spokesperson highlighted its progress in enhancing power supply, citing an average daily supply of 14.44 hours in March 2025 and 9.40 hours from April 1 to 17.
The company assured customers that the upgrades would support sustained improved performance.
He reaffirmed the commitment of KEDCO to transparency and service delivery, urging customers to report specific issues through official customer care channels for immediate action.
“As a customer-centric organisation, we continue to work relentlessly toward ensuring fair and improved electricity supply across Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states.”
“The company pledges continuous improvement in supply while also investing in network expansion and upgrades to improve reliability and reduce technical losses.”
Ballo said KEDCO aims to reassure customers of its dedication to fair and improved electricity supply across Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states.
