The New Year is being celebrated in many parts of the world with fireworks and prayer gatherings despite the covid-19 pandemic.

Nigerians across the country, trooped in to their prayer houses to do an overnight prayer session that runs in to the New Year.

Popularly called Crossover Night, these prayer sessions are held to thank God for seeing them through the previous year, and pray for an even better New Year.

The prayer sessions are culminated in fireworks and thanksgiving just as the clock hits 12:00am.

Morning sermons are also delivered in services across the country on New Year day.

However, in some parts of the world, the pandemic has toned down the New Year Celebrations.

In ,Tokyo the biggest New Year event at Shibuya Crossing was cancelled while in New Zealand, Auckland welcomed the new year with fireworks.
