Pre-Season Friendly: Man Utd Beat Arsenal 2-0

Manchester United beat Arsenal by 2-0 in a pre-season friendly match on Saturday.

The match was played in the late hours on Saturday at the MetLife stadium in the United States, a potential host of the 2026 World Cup final.

 

The match marked the continued rivalry between both English Premier League clubs.

United capitalised on some errors committed by goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and Brazilian defender, Gabriel.

 

Man Utd goalkeeper, Tom Heaton played a long pass to Mainoo.

The teenage midfielder made an impressive cut through the midfield before laying a pass to Fernandes, who struck from 25 yards beyond the reach of Ramsdale in the 30th minute.

 

Seven minutes later in the first half, English attacker, Jadon Sancho sealed the win, after an error by Gabriel.

The friendly is the first match captained by Fernandes, after succeeding Harry Maguire wo was stripped off the captaincy band.

 

Arsenal forward, Eddie Nketiah led the attack, with Martinelli and Saka.

New signees, Kai Havertz and Declan Rice paired together with Martin Odegaard in the centre of the park.

 

Jurrien Timber was handed his first start in the Arsenal team as he played in the right back position.

In the Man Utd lineup, Mason Mount played with 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo in the midfield, while Sancho led the attack line.

 

The Gunners, who lost their title chance to Manchester City in the EPL last season, had previously won 5-0 against the Major League Soccer All-Stars, after a double 1-1 draw against Watford and Numberg.

 

Coming into the game against the North London rivals, Man Utd had recorded wins over Leeds United and Lyon in their pre-season friendlies.

 

While the match was underway, Lisandro Martinez got a yellow card after he made a hard tackle on Bukayo Saka.

 

The tackle resulted into a heated clash between both sides, as United coach, Erik Ten Hag reacted furiously.

 

New goalkeeper, Andre Onana watched from the stands as he’s yet to be handed his first srart in the Reds’ shirt.

 

After the final whistle, the match went into penalty shoot-outs in which Man Utd extended their win once again by 5-3.

The stadium was completely sold out as it recorded spectators of 82,262.
