Premier League: Arsenal Moves Four Points Clear At Top
Arsenal moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League table after beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1, courtesy of goals from Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
The hosts featured a front-three of Gabriel Jesus, Saka and Gabriel Martinelli as the league leaders looked to extend their lead at the top of the table. For the visitors, Hee-Chan Hwang and Matheus Cunha started in a two-man attack.
Arsenal opened the scoring through Saka after the England international latched onto a pass from Takehiro Tomiyasu and fired the ball past Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa in the 6th minute.
The Gunners weren’t slowing down and kept creating chances to extend the lead.
Arsenal doubled their lead with another team goal, this time Oleksandr Zinchenko playing a one-two with Jesus who cut a pass back to captain Martin Odegaard who side-footed a clinical finish to make the scores 2-0.
In the second half, the Gunners took a more cautious approach as they looked to maintain control. However, Wolves were determined to keep themselves in the encounter long enough to mount a comeback.
Wolves then reduced the deficit in the 86th minute when forward Matheus Cunha beat Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya with a curling left-footed effort. The goal was the result of an error from defender Zinchenko.
After the goal, Wolves suddenly looked capable of rescuing an unlikely point. However, Arsenal defended well to see out the game and claim all three points, moving four (4) points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
