Brighton & Hove Albion recorded an impressive 3-1 victory against Manchester United in their Premier League encounter at Old Trafford, inflicting a humbling defeat to Erik Ten Hag’s side as their dismal start to the season continued.
The hosts featured new signing Rasmus Hojlund in attack with Marcus Rashford playing alongside the Danish striker. Forward Danny Welbeck returned to Old Trafford in attack for Brighton, with Kaoru Mitoma and Cote d’Ivoire winger Simon Adingra supporting.
Manchester United started the stronger of the two sides, but Brighton opened the scoring when Welbeck was left unmarked in the box in the 20th minute.
After the break, the visitors continued where they left off as they extended the lead in the 53rd minute after a brilliant piece of play.
Full-back Tariq Lamptey raced down the flank and his pass found Pascal Gross, with the German beating defender Lisandro Martinez before firing the ball past Cameroon international goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Substitute Joao Pedro made the scores 3-0 in favour of Brighton when he was allowed space to place a lovely ball into the net past goalkeeper Onana, before Hannibal Mejbri scored a consolation for Manchester United two minutes later as the match ended 3-1.
Manchester United’s loss at Old Trafford ended a run of 20 games unbeaten at home in the Premier League.
