A double from German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan secured a 3-0 victory for Manchester against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday, going four points ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League table.
The hosts featured Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi in the starting lineup , with Dominic Calvert-Lwein leading the line as relegation-threatened Everton hoped for a miracle against the table toppers. The in-form Erling Haaland started up-front for City, with Algerian international Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden on the flanks.
Everton held off City’s charge early in the game as they stood firm. However, their defence was broken after a moment of magic from Gundogan. The German brought down a difficult ball with his thigh, before improvising to tuck away his effort to score a stunning goal to give Manchester City the lead.
The game needed a brilliant piece of skill to break the deadlock after 37 minutes. Two minutes later, Gundogan turned provider as his cross found Haaland soaring in the air to head the ball into the net. The game remained 2-0 to City at halftime.
Manchester City continued where they left off, with Gundogan scoring a magnificent free-kick in the 51st minute to put the result beyond doubt.
The match finished 3-0 in favour of Manchester City, which extends their advantage over Arsenal to four points in the Premier League title race.
