President Buhari commends Nigerian World Medical Association president-elect

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the president elect of the World Medical Association (WMA), Dr Osahon Enabulele on his emergence.

He made the commendation at a Grand Reception in Abuja to honour the WMA president-elect.

He said that such elevation is inline with his belief that Nigerians can compete successfully anywhere and be among the best.

He also said that Nigeria will take advantage of the WMA presidency to advocate for world universal health coverage among other health targets.

Nigeria will through this elevation clearly champion the ideals of WMA, especially the advocacy of health for all people around the world universal health coverage and no one will be left behind as in sustainable development goals”. President Buhari said.

Earlier, the president of the Nigeria Medical Association, Prof Innocent Ujah, said that Dr Osahon Enabulele has done the nation’s medical profession proud.

He noted that Dr Enabulele’s emergence is the first time a West African physician will be elected as president of the global body of physicians since its establishment in 1947.

He added that Dr Osahon Enabulele has done all medical doctors and indeed Nigerians proud on his election as the president of the WMA.

In his response, the President-elected Dr Osahon Enabulele expressed gratitude for the honour done him.

He promised to use the position to better the lots of the Nigerian health sector.

Dr Osahon Enabulele added that he has always looked forward to making selfless contributions to the progressive development of societies health systems and the medical professionals including that of Nigeria and promised to contribute more to Nigeria health growth.

The Grand Reception was well attended by the heads of health institutions, doctors in the country and other government dignitaries.
