President Buhari Commissions National Housing Projects in Sokoto

The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, has inaugurated 80 units of completed national housing projects phase 1 in Sokoto State.

The President who was represented by the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, said the projects was one of the progressive ideal government seeks to achieve and improve human conditions.

According to him, the country remains committed towards prosperity and away from poverty.

We are already reaching that level by providing opportunities for employment for those unemployed.

“Although we cannot meet everyone of those Nigerians in person, our economic policies and investment in infrastructure such as this national housing projects and others will reach and positively impact many of them.

“Our desire and commitments towards improving the human condition and our message of change, have another facet beyond job creation.

“It responds to those who have long aspired to own a home, and that dream has come true with this projects,” he said.

He appreciated the government and people of Sokoto State for their cooperation towards the successful completion and commissioning of the project that will help to promote the welfare and socioeconomic activities of the people in the state.

Addressing housing needs

In his remarks, the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, said construction of the 80 housing units was part of President Buhari agenda of addressing housing needs in the country.

Fashola who was represented by the Director Information and Communication Technology of the Ministry, Mrs Olayemi Sotomi, explained that the housing projects was awarded in 2017.

Mrs Sotomi said the 80 housing units consists of roads infrastructure, water and electricity provision.

She explained that the breakdown of the housing units were 48 units of 2-bedroom, 28- units of 3-bedroom and 4 units of 1-bedroom bungalows.

According to her, federal government had executed various projects across the country through the support of the 36 states Governors.

She noted that the projects would go a long way in improving the socio-economic activities of the people across the 36 states of the federation.

Mrs Satomi encouraged the public to apply as the allocation of the houses was offered to all without discrimination.

The Director commended the contractor for a job well done and urged beneficiaries to make use of the projects to alleviate shelter challenges.

Providing shelter

In his remarks, the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, applauded President Buhari’s determination towards the provision of shelter for the people of Sokoto State.

Tambuwal who was represented by his Deputy, Manir Dan’iya, added that no doubt this was part of the efforts of state government to provide one of the most critical needs of human life and survival.

He noted that the combined efforts and synergy between the tiers of government and the private sector are bearing fruit in Sokoto State, “soon, the challenge of inadequate shelter for our teaming populace will be a thing of the past” he said.
