President Muhammadu Buhari has given the federal troops in Plateau State ten days to flush out gunmen terrorising the people in the various communities.

The order came following renewed violence in Riyom and Bassa local government areas of Plateau State that has led to wanton killings, mowing of farmlands and destruction of property leading to large numbers of internally displaced people.

The General Officer Commanding third Armoured Division, Nigeria Army, Major General Ibrahim Ali, while addressing the troops deployed in Tangoron community of Riyom Local Government Area, said, “The Commander- in -Chief  of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has asked us to gun down anybody seen carrying illegal weapon and we must carry out the order.

“Those people must be criminals. So, you have to go into the bush and clear the criminals wherever they are hiding and you have been given 10 days to do that and achieve results”.

Major General Ibrahim Ali who also doubles as the Commander Operation Safe Haven, the special security outfit set up to provide protection for citizens in six states witnessing violence said the Commander in Chief’s orders must be carried out without delay.

The General Officer Commanding visited some of the communities attacked by the gunmen including Miango, Biyei among others, and presented them with relief materials such as bags of rice, blankets, cartons of indomie and bags of salt.

Since the outbreak of hostilities all security apparatus in the state are on high alert to forestall further breach of peace as citizens in affected communities are calling on government to help with relief materials through the state or national emergency management agencies, SEMA and NEMA.
