President Buhari seeks confirmation of Justice Ariwoola as CJN

President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded the name of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola to the Senate for confirmation as the substantial Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN.

Similarly, the Presidential sought the confirmation of four executive directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN by the Senate.

President Buhari in separate letters read on Tuesday by the Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan, quoted the constitution for his actions.

President Buhari administered the oath of office on Ariwoola on June 27, 2022, at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Justice Ariwoola took over from Justice Tanko Muhammad who resigned his appointment on health grounds.

Also on Tuesday, the Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari requested the Senate to confirm the appointment of 19 Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The confirmation request was contained in one of the letters by the President to the Nigerian Senate on Tuesday.

According to the letter, President Buhari explained that five of the appointees were being renominated while the other 14 appointees were nominated for fresh appointments into the INEC.
