President Buhari salutes Nigerians’ resilience, signs budget

President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the patience and resilience of Nigerians.

He stated this at the State House in Abuja after he signed the 2016 budget into law.

His spokesman, Femi Adesina, in a series of tweets, conveyed the President’s message in which he said that “living in the State House does not alienate me from your daily struggles. I hear your cries, I share your pains.

I commend the sacrifice, resilience, toughness of all Nigerians, who have continued to have hope and confidence of a great future.

This government is like no other. We are absolutely committed to changing the structure of the Nigerian economy once and for all. I can’t promise that it will be an easy journey, but can assure this govt you have freely elected will work with honesty & dedication.”

The total budget amount is N6.06 trillion.

Briefing State House Correspondents soon after the assent, the minister of Budget and National Planning Senator, Udoma Udo Udoma, said there would be a breakdown of the budget according to the allocation to sectors of the economy, very soon.


The Minister also said implementation guidelines for the budget are in place to ensure strict compliance.

The delayed budget followed appropriation issues that were ironed out between the country’s National Assembly and the Presidency.

The signing was also announced on the President’s Twitter page on Friday, just after noon.
