President Buhari Urges Electoral body to Collaborate With Monarchs

 President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the National Council of Traditional Rulers in Nigeria NCTRN to strengthen their effort in uniting the peaceful coexistence of Nigeria as one nation.

“We cannot forget the role of our traditional rulers in our society in terms of information dissemination and enlightenment in many areas of government issues, therefore I urge the national population commission, Independent National Electoral Commission to collaborate with the traditional rulers for free, accurate and reliable elections and census in 2023.

He made the call at the 13th General Assembly meeting of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria NCTRN held in Abuja the nation’s capital.

The meeting of the traditional rulers centered on the planning and preparation for the successful conduct of the 2023 general elections and the population census in the country.

The Chairman of NCTRN Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar in his remark to the Royal Highnesses said the role of Traditional rulers cannot be over emphasis looking at the vital roles they play in ensuring peace and unity among Nigerian citizens.

The Ooni of Ife and Co-Chairman of NCTRN, His Royal Highness Oba of Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi , Ojaja, the II said that Traditional rulers as the custodians of the people’s culture, tradition, norms, values, and morals, are better placed than existing authorities in handling communal conflicts, crises, and insecurities, and therefore, their official involvement will improve and instill confidence and fairness in the security and justice system in the country.

“Politicians whether they like it or not, there will be no way they can do without traditional institutions. We all know that our country is having economic challenges as well as security amongst others. In this regard we have to come together as traditional leaders to make sure that we achieve tremendous success in the 2023 general elections and census, “the co-Chairman said.

While addressing the Royal Highnesses, the Chairman of the National Population Commission Alhaji Nasir kwarra said that they will continue to work with the traditional rulers to achieve a successful census by 2023.

Also, the Federal commissioner Independent National Electoral Commission Mr. Muhammad Haruna seek the support of the Emirs to educate the citizens to avoid the destruction of government properties about the recent attacks on their two offices in some parts of the country.

 The meeting is to discuss issues surrounding the 2023 General Election and Population Census, and the need for Nigeria to remain as one Nation.
