President Buhari’s Wife tells Nigerians to embrace traditional medicine 

The wife of the Nigerian President, Mrs Aisha Buhari has urged Nigerians to embrace traditional medicine for better health and wellbeing.

Mrs Buhari made the call at the presentation of three books by Pharmacist Zainab Sharif, in Abuja.

The books titled ” Medicinal First Aid Kit ( Kitchen Spices Rack), Common Medicinal Plants of Nigeria and Healing Recipe and Herbal Therapy for Common Ailments” provide information about various herbal plants available in Nigeria.

She said that traditional complementary and alternative medicines was now the new norm to reduce the impact of side effects of orthodox medicines.

The President’s wife noted that traditional, complementary and alternative medicine worth the commitment and commended the author for documenting her experience.

“I wish to therefore congratulate the author for this great feat and call on Nigerians to purchase copies, and use them at home, to ensure long lasting healthy living. I also call on other traditional complementary and alternative medicine practitioners to conduct their research with approved institutions to find cures for diseases that have bedeviled Nigerians,” Mrs. Buhari said.

She added that the books would be of utmost benefit to Nigerians and beyond.

The Minister of State for Health Dr. Adeleke Mamora, said that the Ministry has taken giant steps towards the promotion, development and institutionalisation of traditional, complementary and alternative medicine practices in the country.

Dr Mamora said that the government was proud of the progress made so far in traditional medicine, especially under the current administration.

He urge all Nigerians to take advantage and equip themselves with the knowledge of indegenous medicinal plants from the books.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr Abdullahi Madhu, appreciated the efforts of the Author of the books and everyone who encouraged and contributed to the realisation of the book launch.

The Nigerian Head of the Civil Service, Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan, said that Nigeria has depended a lot on imported medicine, encouraging more Nigerians to go into traditional medicines.

The Author of the books, Pharmacist Zainab Shariff is the Director and Head of Department Traditional, Complementary & Alternative Medicines (TCAM), Federal Ministry of Health.
