President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana has inaugurated the expanded Tema Port after the completion of the phases one and two of the project.

According to the statement by the Presidency, the project is a landmark public-private partnership between Meridian Port Services (MPS), APM Terminals and other partners, including the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority.

It explained that the expansion was privately funded and that the collaboration highlighted Ghana’s ability to leverage private capital for national development.

President Mahama said the Tema Port expansion project was one of the most ambitious infrastructural developments in Africa’s maritime sector.

He said that Ghana was positioning itself as the gateway to West Africa’s Maritime sector and that the project “is more than Ghana’s achievement. It is an African statement”.
