President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured the Super Eagles of his administration’s support as Nigeria’s senior national football team advances its quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement issued by his special adviser on information and strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the president said following the Super Eagles’ resounding 4–0 victory over the Cheetahs of the Benin Republic, the mood across Nigeria reflects a shared belief that the nation deserves a place in the global tournament to be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

He affirmed his confidence in the team and coaching crew, urging them to “keep the hope alive” and fly the national flag high on the world stage.

President Tinubu commended the Super Eagles for their hunger, passion, and determination in Sunday’s match in Uyo, describing the performance as “superlative” and one that has reignited national pride among football-loving Nigerians.

While the job is not yet complete, I join millions of Nigerians in wishing our team every success in the playoffs. Nigerians everywhere believe in you, and I do too,” the President declared, charging the players to sustain their momentum and discipline through the remaining qualifying fixtures.

The victory, widely celebrated across the country, has not only strengthened Nigeria’s chances of securing qualification but also restored public confidence in the team’s capacity to reclaim its glory on the world stage.

The Super Eagles delivered a commanding 4–0 victory over the Cheetahs of the Benin Republic on Sunday, October 14th, in Uyo, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Akwa Ibom State, during their CAF 2026 World Cup qualifier.
