President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of a Lecturer in the Department of Islamic Law at the University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulkadir Abikan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) as Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS).
This is contained in a letter of appointment from the office of Solicitor General of the Federation, Mrs. Beatrice Jedy-Agba in Abuja
The appointment according to the letter takes effect from 24th of November 2024 in conformity with sections 8 (1) and (2) of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Act of 1984.
Meanwhile, the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has expressed excitement over the appointment of Professor Abikan.
In a goodwill message issued by his spokesman, Mallam Abdulazeez Arowona, the Emir rejoiced with Abikan, over the appointment.
As the new Director-General and Council Member of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari said, “I have the confidence that Professor Abdulquadir Abikan will bring his wealth of experience to improve and drive NIALS to the nation’s legal advancement.”
While urging Professor Abikan to uphold professionalism, integrity, and national unity in the discharge of his assignment, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari thanked President Bola Tinubu for considering an indigene of the Ilorin Emirate for the appointment.
He therefore prayed that Almighty Allah guide the new Director-General of NIALS in his general conduct to the advancement of his mandates and benefit of the nation as well as humanity in general.
