President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for the establishment of community-based security committees across the country to security challenges.
The President’s proposal was delivered on his behalf by the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, during the General Assembly of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council (NTRC) in Kebbi state on Tuesday.
The initiative, announced at the gathering with “Strengthening Community Collaboration for Lasting Peace in Northern Nigeria,” aims to serve as a local framework for dialogue, conflict resolution, and enhanced collaboration between communities, traditional leaders, and security agencies.
President Tinubu emphasised that the committees would also promote interfaith dialogue to reduce communal tensions.
He further identified the empowerment of women and youth through education and economic opportunities as a critical strategy to counter violent extremism.
