President Tinubu Calls For Defence Of Democracy In Africa

Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu says for Africa to sustain democracy, rule of law and freedom for the people, the continent must fight for democracy.

The Nigerian Leader also says that Nigeria is determined to change narratives and bring about a transformative government in the country.

President Tinubu said these on Sunday evening during a Bilateral-Political talks held with the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Nigeria leader who told the German Chancellor that Nigeria has been able to bring insecurity the to barest minimum expressed the country’s readiness to partner with Germany in education, power, mineral resources and all other opportunities available.

Nigeria is still crawling, but we are determined to change the narrative and bring about a transformative government in the country.

He called for support from the German government in the area of security saying that democracy must win at all times for the continent to meet the expectation of an African dream.

We’re fighting terrorism and that is improving. We still need very much support in that area. And for us to be able to sustain democracy, rule of law and freedom for our people, we need to fight for democracy. And democracy must win at all times for us to meet the expectation of an African dream.”

Speaking on the Sahel region of Africa, President Tinubu stated that diplomatic engagements are ongoing towards the management of coup in Guinea and recently in Niger republic.

We had people diplomatically managing the situation. The need for you to help in that of security will be empahsised and we will continue to require your knowledge. 

He lauded the German government in their previous contributions towards more efficiency of the Nigerian Police in the area of law enforcement training.

That is why your visit this time around is more than necessary and welcome. I hope you will enjoy yourself. You will have noticed; I don’t need to go about the various problems happening in the Sahel region of Africa. You’ve seen and noticed the coup in Guinea and recently in Niger republic.”

The German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, said that Germany is committed to democracy and the rule of law, he stressed that it good for a better future for the people.

Scholz further hinted on Germany’s continued support and cooperation, he mentioned economy as major aspect of cooperation and leveraging on Nigeria’s economic opportunities for Germany.

The Chancellor emphasized the need for partnership with Nigeria in hydrogen adding that it is necessary to produce useful goods for the people without harming the environment.

You already said, there are a lot of chances not just from gas and oil, which is traditionally linked to your country, but there’s a lot of room for improvement and for better using the capacities of your country, but also for going into investments for the future, which is about hydrogen and all the things that are important for an economy that is able to produce all the necessary goods for the people without harming the environment.”

Scholz applauded President Tinubu’s leadership qualities in the West Africa sub region and expressed the readiness of the German government to partner with ECOWAS in strengthening democracy in the sub-Saharan Africa.

That a lot of bad coups happened in the past. The latest in Niger where we saw that the president that was elected and doing a good job as far as we can see until we know was just put away and thrown away by a coup, which is a damage for the country but also not good for security in the region. 

And working together in this field and cooperating and also understanding your views in this question being a leader in the region is also important,” he added.
