President Tinubu, who attended the summit on the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, addressed world leaders on the opening day of the high-level meeting of heads of state and government of emerging economies.

In his remarks, the Nigerian Leader called for “a comprehensive reevaluation of global governance structures, financial systems, and healthcare frameworks to ensure fairness, inclusion, and justice for low-income and emerging economies, particularly in Africa.”
He advocated for sustainable technology transfer and accessible financing to enable equitable participation of emerging economies in global development initiatives. “We must chart a new path of justice—one that recognises the developmental rights of all and ensures that no region is left behind,” he said.

He reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to South-South cooperation and called for global engagement on “financial restructuring, debt forgiveness, and inclusive climate action.”

It would be recalled that the President departed Nigeria on 28 June for Saint Lucia, where he formalised bilateral relations with both the host country and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States.
