President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate transformation of Nok University, Kachia, in Kaduna State, into a Federal University.

This directive follows a Federal High Court ruling that ordered the final forfeiture of the privately-owned institution to the federal government.

The university is now officially named the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, fulfilling a long-standing promise to the people of Southern Kaduna.

The formal handover of the university’s assets to the federal government took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, with Vice President Kashim Shettima affirming that the event highlights the administration’s commitment to national development and inclusivity.

Vice President Shettima praised President Tinubu for prioritising this initiative and highlighted the support of key figures such as General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd), Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, and Senator Sunday Marshall in realizing the project.

VP Shettima assured that the university would begin operations immediately, with plans to include it in the 2025 federal budget and admit its first students by September.

He also reiterated the government’s dedication to improving infrastructure in Southern Kaduna, especially in road construction, which is already underway through the efforts of Governor Uba Sani.

Governor Sani expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for making the university a reality, calling it a significant milestone for the people of Kaduna.

He also commended VP Shettima for his continued support. Senator Sunday Katung, who sponsored the bill for the university’s establishment, also thanked President Tinubu, highlighting the long-awaited benefits the university would bring to the region.

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayode, confirmed the final forfeiture of Nok University’s assets, including academic buildings, a water factory, an international hotel, and an event center, to the federal government.

These assets are now designated for the use of the new Federal University of Applied Sciences.

Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa and General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd) also praised the establishment of the university, expressing their gratitude to President Tinubu for his commitment to the development and peace of Southern Kaduna.

They emphasised the broader impact the university would have on Nigeria as a whole, providing educational opportunities and fostering peace in the region.
