President Tinubu Meets Ogoni Leaders

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently meeting with the Governor of River State, Sim Fubara and the leaders of Ogoni land from four local government areas of River State.

Governor Fubara on Tuesday arrived at the Council Chambers of the State House, in-company of Senator Lee Maeba.

Also on the delegation of the Governor are Senators Magnus Abe, Olaka Nwogu, Chief Victor Giadom, Chief Kenneth Kobani, Monsignor Pius Kii, Leedom Mitee, Senators Bennett Birabi, Barry. Mpigi , Chief Keneth Kobani, Prof.B. Fakae amongst others.

Also in attendance are some Council members ; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed, Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited NNPCL, Mele Kyari.

The agenda of the meeting is yet to be made public as at ten times of filing this report but may not be unconnected to issues of ogoni clean up and resumption of oil exploration in Ogoniland.

The Nigerian government had expressed concern over years of stoppage of oil exploration in River State.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Samuel Ogbuku (PhD) expressed concern over years of conflict resulting in the stoppage of oil exploration and exploitation by the International Oil Companies (IOCs) in Ogoniland, Rivers State.

Ogbuku on behalf the group noted that stand – offs in the face of growing energy crisis occasioned by the removal of oil subsidy by the federal government has robbed the nation of vital Gross Domestic Product (GDP) over the years.
