President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mourned the passing of Sebastian Brodericks-Imaseun, former head coach of Nigeria’s U-17 male team, describing him as a true Nigerian hero.
In a statement signed by the President’s Spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu sympathizes with the Imasuen family, the football community, the government of Edo State, and all those who mourn the loss.
The President celebrates the football icon, “who brought hope and inspired national and diligence on and off the pitch.”
He prays for the repose of the soul of the departed.
Brodericks-Imasuen, a footballer-turned-coach, led Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets to victory at the inaugural FIFA U-16 World Championship in China in 1985.
Imasuen competed in the men’s tournament at the 1968 Summer Olympics.
In 1985, Broderick coached the Nigeria under 18 national team to victory at the Inaugural 1985 FIFA U-16 World Championship in China, winning the final match in Beijing against West Germany.
