President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed sorrow over the passing of renowned labour leader and rights activist Comrade Abiodun Aremu, describing him as a fearless crusader who dedicated his life to the defence of workers’ rights, social justice, and national progress.

The President in a condolence message issued by his spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, noted that Aremu’s intellectual strength, organisational prowess, and unwavering courage distinguished him as one of the most formidable voices in Nigeria’s pro-democracy and labour movements.

President Tinubu sympathised with the labour movement, civil society organisations, and the family of the late activist, who passed away on Sunday in Ota, Ogun State.

He described Aremu as a “committed fighter who devoted his time, energy, and resources to empowering workers and enhancing their rights,” noting that his lifelong commitment to fairness and equality earned him the respect of allies and opponents alike.

The President particularly commiserated with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and the broader civil society community on the loss of “one of their most consistent partners in the quest for a better life for all workers”.

“Aremu was a courageous comrade who remained steadfast in his beliefs and never wavered in his defence of the oppressed,” the President stated. “He was a teacher, an organiser, and a conscience of the people. He shaped minds and inspired generations of Nigerians on integrity, justice, and patriotism. The nation has lost a selfless patriot and a tireless fighter for the common good.” He added

President Tinubu prayed for the peaceful repose of Aremu’s soul and for divine strength and comfort for his family, friends, and associates during this difficult time.
