The Delta State Monarch, Asagba of Asaba Kingdom, Professor Obi Epiphany Azinge has scored President Bola Tinubu highly in governance saying the President is on the right track.
Prof. Azinge gave the assessment on Thursday after his courtesy and solidarity visit to the President while speaking to journalists at the State House in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The Asagba of Asaba acknowledged the complexities of governing Nigeria but commended President Tinubu for his dedication to governance, while also noting that his administration may have faced certain challenges.
In his words, “There might be some hiccups but on a whole, we score him highly in that regard and we pray for him.
“It is a very difficult country to govern there will always be some criticisms here and there but on the whole, I believe he is on the right track and then we wish him the very best.”
The Asagba’s Courtesy Visit
Speaking on the essence of the visit, the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Azinge said he visited to requests for more federal presence in Delta State, precisely Asaba.
Prof. Azinge emphasised during the visit that Asaba remains the only state capital in Nigeria without a federal university, characterising the oversight as worrisome.
“Amongst other requests, federal presence as the needs arises and of course we note with regret and we mention to him the massacre if Asaba people in 1967 and that our people need some apology if need be in that regard.
“And also to remind him that we need institutions in our area,in our locality especially to remind that Asaba remain the only state capital without a federal university and that for us is worrisome.”
The Monarch further disclosed that the visit was to acknowledge and appreciate some gestures extended by the Federal government to Delta State especially the access road to the Niger bridge as well as the passing of gas line through Asaba Awka
He revealed that the visit served as an opportunity to express gratitude for certain initiatives by the Federal Government benefiting Delta State, including the construction of the access road to the Niger Bridge and the routing of a gas pipeline through Asaba and Awka.
“To pay a courtesy call and also we have tagged it a thank you visit and also a solidarity visit.
“Thank you visit in the sense that he was so cordial enough to send people to represent him at the passage of the 13th Asagba of Asaba who is my predecessor in office he passed last year and the burial took place and Senator Akume secretary to the Government of the Federation was sent by Mr President to represent him
“Secondly to acknowledge and appreciate some of the gestures extended by the Federal government to our area, especially access road to the Niger bridge. Passing of gas line through Asaba to Awka ,all in the works.”
Additionally, the Asagba of Asaba mentioned that the visit also recalled the tragic Asaba massacre of 1967, suggesting that the Asaba community would appreciate a formal apology from the federal government for this historical atrocity
“Also we note with regret and we mention to him the massacre of Asaba people in 1967 and that our people need some apology if need be in that regard.
“So on the whole it turned out to be a wonderful visit and then he appreciated our coming and he obviously indicated that anytime he is in the South-south or any of the areas he will come to Asaba.”
The Obi, Prof Azinge also disclosed that his delegation assured President Tinubu of Asaba’s renowned hospitality, following the President’s promise to visit Delta State during his future engagements in the South-South region of the country.
It would be recalled that Delta State hosts institutions like the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, and Dennis Osadebe University, yet Asaba City has no federal university.
