Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Nigeria Police and other law enforcement agencies to bring the situation in River State under control while ensuring security of public institutions.

The President gave the directive on Monday in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga.

President Tinubu also called on the Governor of River State, Siminalayi Fubara, political leaders and their supporters to exercise restraint and uphold the rule of law.

The Nigerian Leader urged the political actors in the State to de-escalate situation and discourage their supporters from engaging in violence or destructive actions.

Expressing deep concern over reports of arson and explosions in the state, President Tinubu cautioned that government facilities built with public funds must be safeguarded from vandalism.

He further stressed that self-help has no place in a democratic system, especially after 25 years of continuous democracy.

President Tinubu added that the outcome of the River State local council election is not an exception of political disputes within the ambit of the Nigerian judiciary.
