President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid tribute to the late President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, describing him as a courageous, resolute and uncompromising philanthropy who lived a life of service.
President Tinubu in a tribute personally signed by him to the memory of the elder statesman, described the passing of Chief Iwuanyanwu which occurred on July 25th, 2024 as a massive loss to the nation.
He said his counsel and stabilising quality will be sorely missed.
The President lauded the late elder statesman as an enterprising ardent believer in Nigeria’s human and material abundance and fecundity.
He added that his investments across sectors and the nation attests to this.
President Tinubu further described the late Iwuanyanwu as a colossus of many parts and a pioneer of sports, business, politics, resourceful and relentless astute illustrious son of Nigeria.
“Chief Iwuanyanwu was courageous, defiant of injustice, and uncompromising. He had the heart of a gladiator, resolute and indomitable.
“The late elder statesman lived a life of service. With his wealth, he served his people and the nation, providing scholarships to indigent students, building schools and hospitals, and supporting many charitable causes.” President Tinubu added
The Nigerian Leader recalled late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu’s exploits in sports with the Iwuanyanwu Nationale Football Club, now Heartland F.C., which he founded in 1985.
“Thanks to his acclaimed facility for excellence, the club won several national and international championships. He was a significant factor in Nigeria’s sports development.”
President Tinubu also commiserated with the Iwuanyanwu family, the government, the people of Imo State, and Ndigbo Gburugburu as the burial rites of Chief Iwuanyanwu begin in a few days.
The President stated that his life and remarkable accomplishments will always be remembered.
He prays God Almighty grant the soul of late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu eternal rest.
The Late Chief Iwuanyanwu’s Service
The late President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo served the nation in many official capacities. He was the founding chairman of the Raw Materials and Research Development Council (RMRDC) and the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC) chairman.
He also served as chairman of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) board, founding chairman of the Nigerian National Lottery, and chairman of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi.
Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu was born 4th of September, 1942
In 1963, he gained admission into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he studied Civil Engineering.
He was a Nigerian politician and businessman. Until his death, the late Chief Iwuanyanwu was the 11th President-General of Ọhanaeze Ndigbo.
He died on the 25th of July 2024 at the age of 81 years.
The funeral rites for Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the late President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, will commence on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 while he will be buried on November 1, 2024.
