President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Dr Abdullahi Usman Bello as Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
The brief swearing-in ceremony took place before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
The Council meeting recorded high numbers of cabinet members except for a very few number, who are out of the country for national assignments.
The Vice President Kashim Shettima who is currently attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Apia, Samoa, was not in attendance.
Also not at the meeting were; the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; Power, Adebayo Adelabu; Environment, Professor Joseph Utsev; and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Speaking to journalists after his swearing in, the new CCB Chairman, Bello promised to rid the public service of corruption and ensure that integrity is re-instituted across all sectors.
Assuring of his readiness to deliver on the Bureau’s mandate, Bello said “his aim is to restore integrity in the public service.
“The code of conduct bureau was the first anti corruption agency in Nigeria and I intend to deliver on the mandate of the Bureau.”
“It’s all about making sure that people in the public service the public servants behave with integrity they avoid corruption and no conflict of interest, the aim of it is integrity, accountability those are the duties that I will deliver.
“And I promise Nigerians that inshallah i will do my best to make sure that I deliver on the mandate of the Bureau,” he said.
Bello expressed the belief that while corruption is a global issue, functional systems can mitigate the scourge.
The CCB Chairman also promised that Nigeria has the necessary systems and institutions to combat corruption and he intends to focus on delivering the Bureau’s mandate to ensure integrity and prevent corruption.
Bello said; “I always say that it’s not about the location of where you are , everybody have tendency to be corrupt
“one of the most important thing is the systems that we have in place to check it so if you have the system in Nigeria we are going to be dealing with this problem so i assure that we have the systems we have the institutions we only need to deliver on the mandate that is given to us then everything will be all right.”
