The governing party in Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress, APC, is still holding discussions and is yet to conclude on timetable of activities for its primaries ahead of the  2023 General Election.

The APC National Publicty Secretary, Mr. Felix Morka stated this in a press briefing at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

He was reacting to a timetable trending online which contained the APC schedule of activities for its primary elections.

According to Mr. Morka, the APC National Working Committee held a meeting where discussions regarding the primary elections were held but no conclusion was reached.

“We discussed the programme for our party’s primaries looking at the schedule of activities that is to come.

“I am not able to give you the rundown of the details of that schedule because that is still in discussion. We are yet to conclude on a definite plan or timetable or schedule for our primaries.

“But I can confirm that we did have that conversation today. At least we commence the conversation but we have not concluded and we have not made any decision.

“We have not released out any information into the public space about the schedule of our primaries. But what am confirming to you is that we had that discussion and that discussion is still in progress and as soon as the details are concluded and a decison is made, you will be the first to see or hear about it,” Morka said.

Speaking on the Electoral law which requires government appointees to resign before running for any electoral position, the APC National Publicty Secretary said the party will abide by the law.

Nigeria is to hold its General Election in 2023 and according to the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in compliance with the Electoral Act, political parties have from April 4 to June 3, 2022 to conduct their primaries and ensure resolution of disputes from the exercise.
