A private donor has donated a 7.5kva electricity generator, solar power devices and safety kits to Internally-Displaced Persons Camp, in Lokoja city centre, to provide electricity to the displaced.
Dr. Sanusi Ohiare, an energy economics expert, works with Nigeria’s rural electrification agency, and an indigene of the state, from central Senatorial District.
Enormity of Destruction
Mr. Ohiare, says he is moved by the enormity of destruction to lives and property caused by the Floods in the state.
Speaking through a stand in Mr. Kashim Maahi, at the IDP camp, at Adankolo primary school, Lokoja.
Dr. Ohiare said :”Our mission is not only to provide food for the internally displaced persons in dire need of food and shelter, but to also ensure protection of their by providing electricity, to light up the camps while also providing them with means of charging their mobile phones to enhance social communication among the displaced families.”
“We provide life jackets for the Boat Riders, canoeing passengers across the Lokoja mainland, and we do all these with deep sense of sympathy with the flood victims,” he explained.
Ravaging Flood
Dr Sanusi called on well-meaning and friends of Nigeria to support the efforts towards alleviating the sufferings of the displaced, as more victims in the hinterland, count their losses, amidst despairing experience of the ravaging floods.
He commended the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for giving quick interventions to flood victims.
Foodstuff was part of the donations, that were distributed to crowds of IDPs amid tough scramble.
