A Nigerian Professor of Public Health based in South Africa, Dominic Targema Abaver, has called on Nigerians in the diaspora to support the government’s efforts in enhancing national security and development.

Speaking in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, during an International Conference on Homeland Security organized by the Benue Public Service Institute (BPSI), Professor Abaver emphasized the importance of collaboration in fostering a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.

Delivering a paper titled “Ensuring the Safety and Security of Our Nation: Collaboration, Innovation, and Preparedness,” the Walter Sisulu University lecturer highlighted the need for strategic partnerships involving government agencies, local communities, and Nigerians abroad.

He commended the Benue State Government for establishing the Benue Public Service Institute, describing it as a vital initiative for strengthening governance, security, and development efforts.

He noted that the International Conference on Homeland Security provided a platform for experts, policymakers, and scholars to discuss innovative solutions to security challenges.

Professor Abaver stressed that “by fostering cooperation and innovation, Nigeria can overcome security concerns and create a stable environment for growth and development.”

He encouraged the diaspora to contribute their expertise and resources to initiatives that promote peace and sustainable progress in the country.

Voice of Nigeria reports that the three-day conference, themed “Ensuring Safety and Security of Benue State: Collaboration, Innovation, and Preparedness,” attracted participants from within Nigeria and abroad.

It provided an avenue for knowledge-sharing and strategic discussions on security and governance.
