A member of the board of governors, Christ College, in Ogun State, South-West, Nigeria, Mr. Oluwatosin Osofowe has said that insecurity can be reduced if the government provides basic amenities across the 36 states in Nigeria.
He disclosed the statement during a Christmas Carol at Christ College, situated at Ayetoro community along Lagos-Ibadan express way, Ogun State, South-West, Nigeria.
Mr. Osofowe said; “Government should provide basic amenities such as food, jobs, where people can get monthly income among others, these provisions can reduce insecurity challenges across the 36 states in Nigeria”.
He also stated that loving each other irrespective of the tribe can also curb insecurity.
’’If we truly love our leaders and they truly love us as citizens, there will be no crisis in the country, also if our government thinks of our well-being, the insecurity challenges will reduce drastically.’’ Mr. Oluwatosin Osofowe added.
He went further to explain the significance of Christmas, “The essence of Christmas is to appreciate God, who has given us Jesus Christ, the saviour of the world and the whole essence of Christmas is centred around love. Jesus Christ is a message of peace and love, our love is not genuine that is why we are still facing insecurity issues in the country”. He said.
In the same vein, the Chairman of Christ College, Pastor Samuel Olatunji, added that, if the Nigerian government wants to be successful in its administration, it should have peace with God.
He further explained that, “The government should also enact policies and ways of peace that the people will follow”
The Principal of Christ College, Mr. Ashaye Pelumi, also stated the significance of the Christmas Carol to students and everyone across the globe, “The carol is to grow the students in Godly ways, making them sing Christian songs that will glorify God”. He said.
“Carol also provides Godly values in society.” Mr. Pelumi added.
Student’s view
Some of the students of Christ College shared their views on Christmas, according to Divine Sanusi, an S.S. 2 student, She said ’’Christmas to her, is a season of happiness and giving.
Another student from S. S.3, Ruth Popoola, stated that, “Christmas is a period of joy, encouragement and happiness”.
According to Bamigbola Gboagbo, “Christmas is a season of love, sharing gifts, spending time with loved ones, having fun and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ”.
Edema Funmilayo, said that “Christmas is a festive period, when Jesus Christ was born, families and friends usually gather to celebrate the season”
In addition, Oluwadarasimi another student said Christmas is all about the birth of Jesus Christ, which is why we usually celebrate him during this season.
The theme of the carol was tagged: “The Angel Sing”.
