Public Schools in Akwa Ibom to benefit from Farm Input Distribution

Akwa Ibom State has commenced the second phase of farm input distribution to public schools in the state to boost agricultural productivity.

The second phase of the distribution which was meant for schools in the Eket Senatorial District was flagged off by the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Glory Edet.

The distribution event was held at the Government Secondary School, Afaha Eket, and saw the presence of agricultural stakeholders, directors in the Ministry of Agriculture, as well school officials.

According to the commissioner, this structure was part of the efforts of the State Governor, Udom Emmanuel to ensure the actualization of food sufficiency policy, which is a germane part of the Governor’s Completion Agenda.

She charged the beneficiaries to utilise the arable lands at their disposal and expose their wards to the rudiments of agriculture for them to have something to fall back on in the nearest future.

Edet also noted that experts have been deployed to visit benefitting schools for inspections.

In his remarks, the Ministry’s Director of Agriculture, Emmanuel Akpan, implored the attendees to take the opportunity seriously, terming agriculture the world’s largest income-earning venture.

He also lauded the Honorable commissioner for taking the initiative to bring the vision of the governor for the agricultural sector to life.

Responding on behalf of the participants and the beneficiaries, the Principal of Community Secondary School, Ndueduo Margret Umoh expressed gratitude to the State Governor for his “lofty ideas” in the development and promotion of agriculture, while assuring that the inputs will be put to good use.
