Queen Lateefah’ Proves Nollywood’s Mettle with ₦350 Million, Rising

Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola’s debut cinema production, Queen Lateefah, has achieved remarkable success, grossing ₦350 million since its release two months ago.

The film’s distributor, Cinemax Nigeria, shared the milestone on Instagram, writing:

“Queen Lateefah is still going strong and shining bright! With ₦350M in earnings, it now ranks as the 7th highest-grossing Nollywood title of all time! A huge thank you to everyone who has watched this masterpiece. You are truly the best!”

This achievement has secured Queen Lateefah as the 7th highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time. The movie made an impressive debut, earning ₦57.7 million in its opening weekend, marking the highest opening weekend for a Nollywood film outside of a holiday period. Additionally, it set a record for the highest-grossing Nollywood weekend by an independent distributor in 2024.

Co-produced by Wumi Toriola Productions and Captain of the Sea Productions, Queen Lateefah tells the story of 30-year-old businesswoman Lateefah Adeleke, who is determined to climb the social ladder. However, her meticulously crafted image starts to fall apart when she encounters Jide Rhodes, a businessman who exposes her true self.

The film delves into themes of ambition, self-identity, and the price of living a false life. The star-studded cast includes Kunle Remi, Femi Adebayo, Nancy Isime, Broda Shaggi, Bimbo Manuel, Elvina Ibru, Enioluwa, and Gbugbemi Ejeye.
