Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has commenced the distribution of Ramadan relief materials to 300,000 households in all 27 local government areas of Borno State.
The initiative is aimed at easing the economic hardship faced by vulnerable families during the holy month of Ramadan. Each beneficiary is to receive one bag of rice, one bag of millet, and 10 kilograms of sugar.
Speaking at Ramat Square on Tuesday, Governor Zulum charged members of the distribution committee to uphold transparency and fairness throughout the exercise.
He stressed that the items are strictly for the needy and not for personal gain, warning that any official found diverting the relief materials would face legal consequences.

According to him, the palliatives are meant for widows, orphans, internally displaced persons, struggling farmers, and low-income earners battling to survive.
The governor further directed that the gesture be extended to Christian residents observing the Lenten season, which coincides with Ramadan this year.
He noted that his administration remains committed to inclusive support for all communities in the state.
Over the years, the Zulum-led government has also provided food assistance to Christian faithful during Christmas celebrations and facilitated free transportation for non-indigenous Christians travelling to reunite with their families during the festive period.
In their separate remarks, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, representing Borno Central and the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani, applauded the governor’s consistent support for vulnerable citizens.
Earlier, the Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Ali Abdullahi Isa, gave the assurance that the agency would ensure a smooth and transparent distribution process.
