In a bid to support the less privileged during the holy month of Ramadan, the Gombe State Government has commenced a statewide distribution of essential food items.

The food distribution includes 30,355 bags of rice, 6,880 bags of maize, 3,360 bags of millet, 2,880 bags of sugar, 3,380 cartons of spaghetti, and 2,688 gallons of vegetable oil.

The palliative distribution is aimed at providing relief, ease economic hardship, and enable greater spiritual devotion during this sacred period.

Flagging off the distribution in Gombe, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who was represented by the Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the welfare of all residents.

“This initiative reflects His Excellency’s commitment to inclusive governance, ensuring that every citizen, regardless of status, benefits from government interventions,” Luggerewo stated.

As Chairman of the Ramadan Palliative Distribution Committee, Luggerewo commended the governor’s compassion, describing the effort as a demonstration of generosity and concern for the people, especially during Ramadan.

“This is a month of fasting, mercy, and blessings. His Excellency deemed it necessary to extend a helping hand to the less privileged to ensure they observe Ramadan with ease,” he added.

The State Distribution Coordinator emphasised that Governor Yahaya had ordered the immediate release of all available food items from state stores, with a structured framework in place to ensure they reach intended beneficiaries at the local government and ward levels.

Similarly, the Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Haruna Abdullahi, who also serves as the Secretary of the Distribution Committee, assured that due process, transparency, and accountability would guide the entire process.

Representing the beneficiaries, Alhaji Sale Danburam, Secretary General of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), expressed gratitude for the intervention, noting that it would help ease the hardship many families face during Ramadan.

Speaking on behalf of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), the state’s Deputy Chairman of the Association of Persons with Disabilities, Bala Jibrin Zannah, praised the inclusion of PWDs in the distribution exercise.

“This support will allow our members to focus on worship and spiritual growth instead of struggling for daily sustenance,” he said.

Malam Bala also commended Governor Yahaya for establishing the Disability Commission and appointing board members, a move that he said makes Gombe State a leader in addressing the needs of persons with disabilities.

With the official launch of the food distribution, allocations will now be sent to local government areas for onward distribution at the ward level, ensuring that the items reach those who need them most.
