An Islamic scholar, Imam Fuad Adeyemi, has called on Nigerians to live in peace and harmony with one another regardless of religious, ethnic, and tribal affiliations.

Imam Adeyemi made the call during the Interfaith Breaking of Fast organised by the Al-habibiyyah Islamic Society in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

He noted that organising the breaking of the fast with Christian brothers and sisters is to promote peace and unity in Nigeria and to portray the good teachings of Islam.

“The Almighty Allah who created us knows why we are created in different religions and tribes, and we cannot change his will, so it is for us now to know how to live with one another in peace and harmony,” he said.

In his remark, Sheik Nura Khalid urged Muslims to exhibit good character in associating with adherents of other faiths because Islam is the religion of peace and further advised other mosques to emulate the Al-habibiyyah Islamic Society in organising such events to promote peace for the development of Nigeria.

Reverend Father Canice Chinyeaka, an International Programme Development Specialist from the United States of America, commended the efforts of the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society for organising the breaking of fast with other faiths at a time when Nigeria and other African nations are experiencing religious and ethnic crises.

“I must commend the gesture of Al-habibiyyah for this effort by bringing us together to eat at one table regardless of our religion and tribe, this is how it should continue, it is a symbol of unity for our country, Nigeria and Africa at large,” Father Chinyeaka said.

He further made a commitment that, as a religious cleric, he would adopt all necessary measures to ensure that people are educated on the importance of peace and unity.

Similarly, Archbishop Peter Ogunmuyiwa noted with concern how Nigerians are divided in the name of religion, with deep hatred among the citizens.

“As a devoted Christian, i am from an Islamic family, and we are in peace with one another without any hatred, which I think every Nigerian should emulate for the development of our great country,” he said.

The Al-habibiyyah Islamic Society has been organising the Interfaith breaking of Fast for years with the aim of ensuring that peace and unity reign among the different religions and tribes in Nigeria.
