The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Aliyu Umar Yusuf has congratulated Muslims across the State and the country over the sighting of a crescent moon for Monday’s commencement of the 1445 Islamic Lunar Calendar’s Ramadan fast.

This is contained in a press statement signed and made available to journalists in Lokoja by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Yabagi Mohammed.

He enjoined Muslims to rededicate themselves to the worship of Allah, affirming that Ramadan is a sacred month in which Muslims are expected to commit to acts of worship and avoid anything that would derail their fast.

The Speaker used the occasion to congratulate the State Governor and members of his cabinet for the commencement of Ramadan and called on Muslims to continue to pray for the betterment of the nation in the face of current difficulties.

The Speaker also urged Nigerians and citizens of Kogi State not to lose faith in the ability of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to bring succour to them as demonstrated in the many intervention packages of government, stating that they were not resting on their desire to see a better citizenry.

The Speaker also advised Muslims to remember the State’s legislature in their supplications for good legislation and programmes that would move the state forward.

To effectively do that, he recommended supererogatory prayers (Nafila), recitation of the Holy Qur’an, giving alms, being gentle and peaceful in conduct and always remembering Allah in everything throughout the Ramadan period and beyond.
