The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar the III, has declared the sighting of the moon which marks the end of Sha’aban 1442 AH.
He also announced Tuesday 13th April 2021 which is equivalent to 29 day of Sha’aban 1442 as first day of Ramadan fast in Nigeria.
Sultan Abubakar made the declaration at his Palace during the official announcement for sighting the crescent month.
According to Sultan, the new moon was sighted in different parts of the country and that report of the moon sighting was received from Muslim leaders and other organizations.
“After due verification and authentication by national moon sighting and states committees’ confirmation as well as routine scruitiny, I hereby announce the sighting of the crescent month of Ramadan which signifies end of Sha’aban 1442 AH.
“In accordance with Islamic Law, Muslims is to commence fasting Tuesday 13th April, 2021 accordingly,” he said.
He urged Muslims faithful to use the month of Ramadan to devote themselves fully to worship of Allah throughout the holy month.
Sultan Abubakar however, implored Muslims to pray fervently to leaders to enable them steers the affair of this country and for sustainable peace, unity and security.
“We urged Nigerians to continue to live with one another irrespective of religion, ethnicity or tribal background,” the Sultan added.
He also called on wealthy individuals to assist the vulnerable to help reduce the hardship, especially during Ramadan.
The Sultan also use the opportunity to advise Muslims to adhere to COVID-19 protocols during daily five prayers, Tarawih and among others.
Ramadan is the ninth month in Islamic Calendar in which Muslims faithful observe one month fast.
