Rangers International FC on Sunday defeated Remo Stars FC 2-1 in their match day 24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, Enugu State.

Both teams missed several scoring chances to take the lead early in the encounter, before midfielder Saviour Isaac put Rangers ahead in the 30th minute after scoring a brilliant free kick outside the 18 yard box.

In the second half, Rangers extended its lead in the 48th minute to put pressure on the league leaders. A through pass from CHAN Eagles’ Kenneth Igboke found a well positioned Kingsley Maduforo, who made no mistake as he fired past the goalkeeper.

Remo Stars pulled one back in the 85th minute through Haruna who pounced on a loose ball. However, the scores remained 2-1 as the referee blew the final whistle with Rangers taking all three (3) points.

“I salute their doggedness, they worked hard and I am proud of them,” Rangers Technical Adviser, Fidelis Ilechukwu said about the fighting spirit of his men.

The head coach of Remo Stars, Daniel Ogunmodede, said that Rangers’ never say die spirit gave them the victory.

“They defended well and got a good victory, we look forward to the next match,” Ogunmodede said.

In spite the loss, Remo Stars maintained the lead at the top of the NPFL table with 48 points while Rangers moved to the fourth position with 38 points.
