The Kano State Police Command says it has recovered 163 thumb-printed ballot papers and two ballot boxes from 333 suspected political thugs arrested during the just-concluded state constituency re-run elections.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori made this known while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Bompai, Kano.

He also announced the recovery of four million and forty-eight thousand naira (₦4,048,000) from the suspects.

According to him, security operatives also seized 14 vehicles, one pump-action rifle, five locally made guns, and several dangerous weapons during the operations.

CP Bakori explained that, the elections in Ghari/Tsanyawa and Bagwai/Shanono constituencies were marred by attempts from “unscrupulous individuals who imported thugs from within and outside the state to disrupt the process.

He confirmed that, all the arrested suspects have been charged to various Magistrate Courts in Kano, including Courts 20, 27, and 44 in Nomansland, as well as Courts 8 and 53 in Gyadi-Gyadi Monday 18-8-2025.

The charges, he said, range from criminal conspiracy, disorderly conduct, and possession of offensive weapons, to intimidation, loitering without lawful excuse, snatching or destruction of election materials, improper use of vehicles, and vote solicitation on election day.

Reaffirming the command’s commitment to justice, CP Bakori stressed that those who undermine the democratic process would be held accountable.

He praised the combined security agencies for their professionalism and coordinated efforts in containing violence and safeguarding voters, election officials, and the public.

“As we continue to secure the democratic process, I urge the good people of Kano State to remain law-abiding and to cooperate with security personnel,” he said.

“Security is a collective responsibility, and together we can protect the integrity of our democratic institutions and ensure a peaceful Kano State,” he added.
