The National Population Commission (NPC) in Nigeria says its online recruitment portal for the trial census is no longer active.
The NPC explained that it was shut down the moment the Commission concluded its recruitment process for the exercise
This is in reaction to a fake recruitment portal on social media purported to have been created by the Commission
A statement issued on Monday by the Director, Public Affairs, Dr Isiaka Yahaya, stated that “The attention of the National Population Commission has been drawn to the circulation on social media platforms of a fake ‘NPC Recruitment 2022/2023’ portal, inviting Nigerians to apply for employment for the Trial Census and the 2023Population and Housing Census.
“The Commission wishes to state that this information is totally false and misleading, and should therefore be treated as a scam by fraudsters to swindle unsuspecting members of the public, particularly job applicants.”
Dr Yahaya, therefore, stated that the “Commission disassociates itself from the portal.
“It will be recalled that on the 30th May, 2022, the Commission announced through its social media platforms and also widely reported on other national mainstream media the opening of an e-recruitment portal https://recruitment.adhoctrial.nationalpopulation.gov.ng for the recruitment of ad-hoc staff for the Trial Census exercise nationwide.”
He added that the recruitment of the 14,461 field functionaries has been concluded.
“The Commission wishes to assure Nigerians of its commitment to transparency in the conduct of all activities related to the conduct of the 2023 Census, including recruitment of ad-hoc staff.
“All communication on issues relating to the Commission will be disseminated through its official platforms which include media advertisements, NPC website and verified social media platforms.”
According to him, the NPC is taking every measure to uncover those behind the fraudulent recruitment site, warning scammers to desist from “This inglorious act as the Commission will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law to bear on perpetrators in its quest to conduct the first fully digital Population and Housing Census in Nigeria next year that will be credible and acceptable.

According to the Commission, the census night signifies the commencement of persons’ enumeration in the selected Enumeration Areas and Local Government Areas across the country.
A statement issued on Monday by the Director, Public Affairs Department Dr. Isiaka Yahaya, explained that “Census night is the night immediately before the first day of enumeration set aside for the enumeration of homeless persons.”
Dr. Yahaya stated that “The Enumerators are expected to enumerate all homeless persons seen within the selected Enumeration Areas and LGAs during the census night.
“The decision to enumerate homeless persons at night is based on the fact that homeless persons are usually found in designated places such as markets, bridges, and motor parks where they pass the night rather than day time when they are likely to be on the move.
“The observance of the Census Night is in accordance with international best practice and ensures complete enumeration of the population.”
He further said that “The census reference period for the Trial census will be from the zero hours (00:00) of the first enumeration day, 20th July to midnight (24:00hrs) of the last day, 24th July 2022.
“The Commission calls on residents of those selected areas to support and cooperate with Enumerators as they carry out their assignments professionally.”
