Refugee Commission bags SAEMA-Humanitarian Award

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons in Nigeria has received the Annual Award Security and Emergency Management Award, SAEMA.

The Award ceremony was organised by Image Merchants Promotion Limited and held in Abuja, Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, The Chief Executive Officer, Image Merchants, Yushau A. Shuaib said the award was in recognition of the Commission’s immeasurable and invaluable contribution to humanitarian response.

” The idea behind the award series is to publicly acknowledge and appreciate the agencies (and the individuals behind them) with a view to creating resilient and professional approach in the management of security and emergency situations in the country. The Awards is an annual event envisioned to celebrate the best of the bests in security and response agencies in Nigeria”.

” It’s noteworthy that some past winners went ahead to clinch global awards which include African Public Relations Award and Golden World Award instituted by the International Public Relations Association (IPRA). Some of them include the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), Nigeria Air Force (NAF) and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Department of State Security Service (DSS), National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and Kaduna State Government,” Shu’aib explained

According to him, the award process was a product of a rigorous, painstaking and highly competitive exercise by a committee of seasoned communication scholars, PR specialists and public communicators.

“In fact, I must say that the combine awards on security and communication are quite inspiring as the period of our national life. As we are aware, the country is currently assailed in all fronts by different degrees of man-made adversities ranging from terrorism to kidnappings, separatists’ agitations, armed banditry, cattle rustling, farmers-herdsmen clashes, pipeline vandalism, armed robbery, rape, drug addiction, human trafficking, ritual killings, cybercrimes/internet frauds, sectarian tensions, inter and intra communal and political tensions, ethno-religious conflicts, etc. It is also buffeted periodically by such natural disasters such as floods, building collapses, traffic road crashes, wild fire, erosion menace, desertification, disease outbreaks/epidemics, draught, among others”.

Mr Shu’aib also recognized the patriotic and outstanding contributions in security services and strategic communications that Nigerians find themselves, today.

The CEO Image Consult further said that by instituting the Awards of these nature, the organizations, agencies and individuals being honored will further motivate others in their patriotic duties.

The Federal Commissioner, Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim was represented by the Head of Department, Refugees and Migrants Affairs, Mr Murdakai Titus.
