The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons says it will continue to provide protection and assistance to the Persons of Concern.
Federal Commissioner, Imaan Sulaiman Ibrahim stated this at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Resettlement City project in Zamfara State.
She said the Commission was aware of its humanitarian mandate of providing protection, assistance and ensuring that durable solutions are proffered for its displaced persons and Communities in the State.
According to her, the mandate is evident in the historic groundbreaking event aimed at providing a durable solution to all Persons of Concerns and rehabilitate, reintegrate and resettle them into the society.
” NCFRMI embarked on a Resettlement City Project in 2020 aimed at addressing the critical Housing challenge of Persons of Concern, especially IDPs. The Phase I of the project began with an initial four locations of Borno, Zamfara, Katsina and Edo States. Each Location will have houses, a primary healthcare centre, educational learning centre, skills acquisition centre, recreational area, solar powered bole hole and other amenities”.
” Thanks to the graciousness of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Bello Muhammad Matawalle approved the allocation of a land for the commencement of the Resettlement City here in Zamfara State, which will comprise of 30 units of 1 Bedroom, 30 units of 2 Bedroom, Mosque, worship centre, educational learning centre, skills acquisition centre, recreational area, Police Station, Area for farming and other amenities”.
” Going forward, the Commission will be building resilience on critical needs per State as well as working with State governments in order to complement already existing plans for resettlement of Persons of Concern in order to forestall duplication of efforts and waste of already scarce resources,” Imaan explained
She announced that the Commission also intends to transform existing temporary camps into resettlement cities as opposed to resettling IDPs to new locations that will disrupt their already established livelihood networks and comfort.
“We will continue to identify with every opportunity that will preserve the dignity and well-being of our POCs in the State. We will continue to use such opportunity to encourage them to have hope and believe that the government will see to their Rehabilitation, Reintegration and/or Resettlement”.

Sulaiman Ibrahim further assured displaced Persons that the commission will continue to strive to contribute positively towards the provisions of durable solution until they are fully reintegrated in their original homes.
