Refund of Wrongful Transaction: Business man gets rewarded in Kano

The Kano state Police command in North West Nigeria has commended the actions of the Point of Sale operator (P.O.S) Mohammed Sani Abdulrahman for returning the sum of N9.9m after a wrongful transaction by a customer.

The POS systems provide businesses with the ability to accept payments, manage inventory, track customer data, and generate sales reports.

The customer wrongly transferred N10 million instead of ten thousand naira before the POS operator realised that one of his customers transferred N10M

The Kano Police in a press statement by its spokesperson Abdullahi Kiyawa said, it has already handed over the amount wrongly to the rightful owner at Dawanau International Grains Market, in Kano City.

Kiyawa explained that on receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, directed a discreet investigation with a view to identifying the rightful owner in order to return the money to him.

He said, it took the Police investigation team three months to locate and identify the owner of the mistaking money transfer.

“The incident occured last year on the 21/12/2023, at Kurnar Asabe Quarters in Kano metropolis where the P.O.S. operator resides and the transaction took place.”

 

The P.O.S. operator, Mr. Abdul Rahman who reported the overpayment at the Bompai Police Headquarters Kano where he gave the exact figure transfered to the sum of Nine Million, Nine Hundred and Ninety Thousand Naira only instead of Ten Thousand Naira.

 

“The investigation was concluded by uncovering the identity of the rightful owner, who is a businessman at Dawanau Grain Market in Kano Metropolis on the 14th of March, 2024.

 

After getting all the proofs, CP Gumel shower encomium to both the POS Operator and the Police team from the State CID for the display of honesty, integrity, professionalism and encourages others to follow this rare exemplary track.”

Satisfied with proofs of ownership, the excess sum of Nine Million, Nine Hundred and Ninety Thousand Naira was returned to the owner’s same account.

The owner who expressed satisfaction with the gesture awarded  Five Hundred Thousand Naira cash to the POS operator.

The owner also thanked the CP for his honesty, integrity exemplary leadership of the police force in Kano state.
