Reliable Data Generation Crucial for National Development – NPC Chairman

The Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, has emphasised the critical importance of generating reliable data for national planning and development.

Mr. Kwarra made this statement during the National Population Commission’s 2025 Budget defence at the National Assembly in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.

He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to providing high-quality data to support policymaking and vital national registrations.

“The need to generate data for national planning and development cannot be overemphasized,” Mr. Kwarra said. “Reliable data is the foundation for effective policy formulation and implementation, and we remain dedicated to this crucial task.”

The Chairman commended the National Assembly for their support of the Commission, which he described as essential for fulfilling its mandate.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the House Committee on Population, Mr. Jimi Odimayo, urged the NPC to intensify its efforts in data generation for national planning and development.

He assured the commission that the National Assembly will continue to support the Commission and treat it as the National Data Bank.

“The National Assembly will scrutinise the NPC’s budget to ensure that it is equipped to meet the country’s data needs,” Mr. Odimayo said.

The National Population Commission plays a crucial role in providing the government and policymakers with the reliable demographic and socioeconomic data necessary for effective national planning and development.
