Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership side, Remo Stars of Ikenne, Ogun State has emerged as winners of the 2024 Sheroes Cup after a 5-3 victory on penalties against fellow top flight side, Abia Angels in Abuja on Wednesday.
Regulation time ended 1-1 taking the grand finale to spot kicks.
The Sky Blue Ladies went behind when Ekozie Dikachi scored the opener for Abia Angels.
Deborah Kehinde equalised for Wemimo Mathew’s side taking the match into lottery of penalties as the Ikenne-Remo based side came out victorious 5-3.
Earlier, host, Naija Ratels FC won the third place on penalties against Rivers Angels.
Like the final match, the game also ended in a 1-1 draw after regulation time.
The Abuja based side won the game of wills 4-3 to clinch bronze.
Sheroes Cup Competition, formerly called Naija Ratels Pre-Season Championship, then Flying Officers Cup, is an annual preseason tournament for Women’s Association Football teams in Africa.
President of Ratels Sports Development Foundation, RSDF, Barrister Paul Edeh, is the sponsor of the Tournament.
The competition usually feature elite teams from Nigerian Women Premier League, as well as neighboring African countries and is supported by the Nigeria Football Federation, through the Nigerian Women Football League.
Since the first edition in 2019, it has been described as the biggest preseason tournament for women club football in Nigeria.
