Renewed Hope Initiative: Governor Otu lauds Nigeria’s First Lady

The Governor of Cross River State in southern Nigeria, Bassey Otu has poured encomiums on Nigeria’s first lady, Oluremi Tinubu for expanding the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to vulnerable people beyond the Federal Capital Territory.

Governor Otu, who welcomed the first lady represented by the wife of Nigeria’s Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima alongside his wife Eyoanwan, praised the efforts of Senator Tinubu and her team for empowering women and supporting communities across Nigeria

Otu said, “it is a great day for us as a state. This is an ‘August’ visitor in December; and one we have eagerly anticipated. On behalf of Cross River State, we warmly welcome you to our land. To build a vibrant society, we need to strengthen our women,” to the men he said, “men, it is time to support them wholeheartedly.”

He reiterated the commitment of his administration to support Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which is geared towards poverty eradication and promoting socioeconomic growth of citizens.

Supporting Vulnerable Nigerians

In her speech, the representative of the first lady, Hajiya Shettima, thanked Governor Otu and his wife, Eyoanwan for the warm reception and hospitality accorded to her and her team from the Renewed Hope Initiative.

She commended the state government for keep faith with the initiative, which is exemplified in the leadership qualities and style of Mrs. Eyoanwan Otu as the Coordinator of RHI in Cross River State.

According to her, extending the initiative to Cross River and other states would serves to support government’s economic intervention programmes aimed at alleviating hardship amongst vulnerable people especially women, persons with disabilities and the elderly.

She promised, “by God’s grace, this is just the beginning. There are more impactful projects in the pipeline for all our women, youths, persons with disabilities and the elders. Some have already been rolled out, while in the following weeks, others will be launched.”

Hajiya Shettima, who represented the first lady for the launch of the Renewed Hope Initiative food outreach scheme in Calabar, was accompanied by the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hajiya Fatima Tajudeen Abbas, the wife of the Minister of State for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Mrs. Rachel Owan-Enoh and the wife of the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Mrs. Nelly Ayambem among others.

Thousands of vulnerable people besides women and girls received assorted food items worth millions of naira donated by Nigeria’s first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu through the Renewed Hope Initiative launched in Calabar, the Cross River State capital on Tuesday.
